Our Mochi Comittee has been able to extend your deadline to reserve mochi to Dec. 1 — this coming Sunday!
You can call or phone your order, or if you would like bring in your form (CLICK HERE) to the Temple to make the deadline.
To make sure you will have mochi for the holidays, reserve your mochi today. A bag of mochi, approximately 1 lb., will cost $4.50; sold by weight, each bag generally includes seven pieces of mochi. A set of three mochi to stack for kasane will cost $7.

Volunteers are needed at all stages of the mochi making, from cooking, pounding the rice, shaping the finished cakes, and more. Volunteers are needed throughout the process, so come for a few hours during the operations. Jobs are available throughout the day, starting at 5 a.m. and lasting until 3 p.m.

Background
Mochitsuki — the making of pounded rice cakes — is when the community comes together to make mochi, pounded rice cakes associated with welcoming the New Year in Japan. The use of the cakes was meant to alleviate the need for cooking rice on New Year’s Day, when everyone was busy with the New Year festivities.
