UPDATE: Bishop Harada for BWA Memorial, MA Certification, Sunday

Health Issues Ground Bishop Harada

Bishop Harada Will Join Us Remotely

We are sending get well wishes to BCA Bishop Marvin Harada on learning that he has tested postive for Covid. We also send our gratitude on news that he feels fairly well and plans on joining us remotely for Sunday’s important service. Therefore we will get to see and hear his Dharma messages and his certification of three of our Minister’s Assistants.

Come to the Service and Sign His “Get Well” Card

Temple President LuAnn Lee will have a card or cards at Sunday’s service for us to sign.

JOIN US in welcoming BCA Bishop Marvin Harada for this special service in which we commemorate Lady Takeko Kujo, the founder of the international Buddhist Women’s Association, and remember deceased members of our local BWA for their service to the Temple. Members of BWA will take turns reading the names of the deceased. Namo Amida Butsu.

This is a rare occasion to have the Bishop address us our Sangha directly.

Certification of Three Minister’s Assistants

Bishop Harada will also certify three Minister’s Assistants: Arturo Rubio, Sharon Sasaki, and Yukari Williams. Until this point, these three MAs shared Dharma with the local Sangha under the supervision first of now retired Rev. Kenji Akahoshi and later Supervising Minister, Rev. Gregory Gibbs.

With this certification, all three are now authorized to share Dharma in any Temple in the BCA and to help conduct services as needed. Arturo, Sharon, and Yukari join Bill Teague so that the Temple now has four Certified MAs. (Note: Certified MAs are not ordained, so no honorifics are required. Terms like Reverend, Minister, or Sensei are reserved for ordained MAs.)

Officiating the service will be Rev. Hōkai “Smitty” Smith. Our Service Chair will be Rev. Laverne Shidou Imori. Bishop Harada will provide both youth and adult Dharma talks. Ann Ong, organist, will provide musical accompaniment.

If you are not able to join in person, we plan to livestream the service in real time on our YouTube channel page.
