Dear Sangha members, Dharma and community friends,
Thank you very much for your tremendous efforts in supporting another successful mochitsuki.
Today, the temple was buzzing with activity with the aroma of steamed sweet rice filling the the air on a typical cloudless San Diego day.
The temple's annual tradition of making mochi for the new year was once again a spirited gathering bringing together the youngest Dharma School students to the young-at-heart for a day of fun work and rekindling friendships while making the small bite-size morsel treats and two-piece kasane for the family home O Butsudan.
Many thanks to all of the volunteers for helping out from start to finish. On Friday the crew washed 750 pounds of mochigome sweet rice. On Saturday, the cooking equipment and Annex Hall production area were set up. On this mochitsukki Sunday, we produced over 1,100 pounds of mochi with the last batch taken to the Annex Hall at 11:15 a.m. With everyone's help, we were able to clean up, enjoy a spectacular lunch and end a busy day by mid-afternoon.
I hope many of you had the opportunity to do some holiday shopping at the mini O Bon Again Shop and White Elephant sales. Oh, and cannot forget about the BWA brittle and tamale fundraisers.
Hope everyone gets some well-deserved rest and thank you again on a job well done!
Gassho,
Ralph and Glenn,
