Two Online Taiko Opportunities Coming Soon!
Unique Buddhist Taiko Offerings
Across the Larger Taiko Community
From the Bon Odori/Taiko Subcommittee of the BCA Music Committee, each of these opportunities are available online.
FIRST oPPORTUNITY: taiko as Occupational Therapy
Zoom classes for Rhythmic Flow Taiko. Led by Sydney Shiroyama, a certified occupational therapist who uses taiko as therapy for Parkinson’s Disease patients. She, along with two colleagues, would like to open up the classes to anyone who would like to try them. No experience is needed; no taiko drums are needed (one can use pillows as the drum and wooden spoons for the drum sticks). Check out the website for more information and registration.
Second Opportunity: Keeping the Beat Webinar
This webinar is about Bon Daiko in America, on Saturday March 2 from 10:00-11:15 a.m. A panel discussion, with Tiffany Tamaribuchi, Isaku Kageyama, and the Kinnari and Maui taiko groups, will survey the history of Obon and Taiko in the United States. This event is cosponsored by the BCA Buddhist Education Committee.
