Fall Ohigan with English and Japanese Dharma Talks from Rev. Noriko Kawai
September 20, 2020, the Temple observed Fall Ohigan with Rev. Dr. Kenji Akahoshi presiding and Rev. Noriko Kawai providing Dharma talks in both English and Japanese.
Ohigan means the "other shore" and is meant as a contrast to this shore of the common human experience of samsara or suffering. In Japanese Buddhism the equinox is used to contemplate spirituality -- as a life in balance and finding inspiration in the six perfections of the Bodhisattva.
Our speaker is Rev. Noriko Kawai, ordained as a hospital chaplain and one of the Temple's Ministerial Assistants. In both English and Japanese Kawai Sensei discusses Ohigan and the importance of self-care. Kenji Sensei officiates and introduces Kawai Sensei.
Kenji Sensei encourages us to join him in chanting Sambujo, with the words appearing on screen.
