Here is the listing of dances planned for the Bon dancing hosted by the Temple in 2019. The community dancing (scroll down) takes place on August 3, 2019.

Notes:

You won’t need these items to join in the dancing, but if you have them please bring them. In many cases if available, uchiwa and ribbon poles are passed out to dancers to be returned after the dance. But all are identified following.

  • Kachi kachi are similar to castanets, typically made of two pieces of bamboo, which are clacked in beat to the music.

  • Ribbon poles. See photo at top of the article.

  • Tenugui are long, skinny hand towels made of thin cotton, often worn around one’s neck. Great when you’re working up a sweat!

  • Uchiwa are flat (nonfolding) fans with a handle at the base, originally made of bamboo and paper.
