Free Lecture Saturday, August 10, Lost Japantowns

For AsAmNews, Historian Raymond Chong will speak on “Lost Kinjo—The Lost Japantowns In California” on Saturday, August 10, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the San Diego Central Library, 330 Park Boulevard, San Diego 92101, for a free event.

The speech will cover life in the Japantowns before 1942, the incarceration in the concentration camps, and the fearful resettlement in 1945. As long-time San Diegans know, the current Central Library is just blocks away from San Diego's Asian Pacific Thematic Historic District — where some remnants of the Japanese residents are commemorated by the occasional plaque.

NOTE: This is a private event at the ibrary but not promoted by them. Therefore no information is listed on the Library website but BTSD has confirmed it will take place.
