School Backpack Donation Drive Ends June 20
With many school districts making plans to expand in person teaching this upcoming school year underprivileged students will again be needing backpacks and other school items.
The Buddhist Temple of San Diego through its Dana Group will be supporting Hope for San Diego and Casa de Amistad in order to deliver 100 backpacks filled with school supplies to low income elementary students in our community. Casa de Amistad already has the school supplies. Hope for San Diego and BTSD will be gathering the backpacks. Here’s were our temple members and Dharma friends can pitch in.
Here are the options to donate to this worthy cause this year:
Donate gently used backpacks that you may have at home. Many of our temple families have kids who have outgrown their backpacks, so if you have any in your closet and they’re still in good shape definitely donate them to the temple.
Purchase an inexpensive school backpack at Walmart or Target. We’ve seen some high-quality backpacks at around $10 that could be a great option if you don’t have any used backpacks at home.
The last option, and this one provides the greatest bang for the buck, is to donate $10 dollars to our temple for this particular drive. We have been made aware of a wholesale company (Bags in Bulk) that sells high-quality school backpacks. Their backpacks are just $3 (plus tax) purchased in bulk (24 backpacks/case), so we could get three backpacks for the price of one compared to Walmart and Target. Check the Bags in Bulk website for more info on their offerings.
We will be running this drive June 1st through the 20th. Gently used/new backpacks and monetary donations can be left at our temple. You can also donate directly by going to our Website’s GIVE page and clicking on the PayPal DONATE button. Please make sure to add a note referencing the school backpack donation drive.
Please note that for this drive we will only be collecting school backpacks. We will NOT be collecting school supplies this year, since Casa de Amistad already has them.
Thank you in advance for supporting this cause.
Gassho,
The Dana Group
