Saying Goodbye to a Temple Friend

Rev. LaVerne Senyo Sasaki passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 31, 2023, at the age of 93.

He left behind a life dedicated to the sharing and study of the Dharma. Rev. Sasaki served the Buddhist Churches of America (BCA) for 40 years at the Stockton, Mountain View, and San Francisco Buddhist Temples.

Over the decades he weas a welcome guest speaker at the Buddhist Temple of San Diego, and after daughter Sharon Sasaki and son Brian Sasaki moved with their families to San Diego, he would often visit with his wife Helen and attend services at our Temple, sitting in the pews with other Sangha members. Daughter and son Sharon and Brian are both active members at our Temple; Sharon is a Certified Minister’s Assistant and Assistant Superintendent of the Dharma School; Brian is a recently elected Board Member.

Rev. Sasaki’s large family includes his wife of 60 years, Helen (Yokoi) Sasaki; five children, Brian Sasaki (Lorin) , Sharon Sasaki (Robert Yamamoto), Stanton Sasaki (Lisa), Ellen Maseba (Gus), Rina Vignola (Eric); and 13 grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled at the Mountain View Buddhist Temple on April 30. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations in LaVerne's name to the BCA or organization of your choice.
