Coronado News Profiles Long-Time Member Sets Iwashita

In a copyrighted article by Madeline Yang published days ago in the Coronado News, we learn tragic and heart-warming anecdotes about Sets Iwashita’s boyhood, taken to internment camps as a young boy of just a few years and then with his family back in Coronado, who rebuilt their life from scratch.

Editor’s Note: The Iwashita family, and especially Sets’ father, Zenbei Iwashita, was instrumental in the founding and later the restoration of the Buddhist Temple of San Diego. The senior Mr. Iwashita, now deceased, was recognized in 1986 by the Japanese Coordinating Council of San Diego for his long service to the community.
